Where can I pick up my hire?

We have two pickup locations: Gracetown (2 Percy Street) and Prevelly (Rivermouth Car Park, Mitchell Drive). Choose the location closest to where you are staying or planning to surf when you book.

Should I hire a softboard or a performance board?

If you are a beginner, returning to surfing, or under 12 years old, hire a softboard. They are forgiving, stable, and far safer. Once you are comfortable catching waves and managing the lineup, step up to a mini-mal or funboard.

What thickness wetsuit do I need for Margaret River?

A 3/2mm full-length suit is right for spring through autumn (October to April). A 4/3mm full-length is right for winter (May to September). We stock both at both pickup locations.

I am a complete beginner. Should I hire or take a lesson?

Take a lesson first. A 2-hour beginner lesson with Margaret River Surfing Academy will fast-track your progress and keep you safe. MRSA students get 10 percent off our hire packages. Book at mrsurf.com.au.

Can I pick up at one location and return at the other?

Yes, we can usually arrange that for multi-day hires — just let us know at booking. Same-day hires usually need to return to the same pickup point for logistical reasons.

Softboards

A softboard is the smartest first board you'll ever ride. The foam construction is forgiving when you fall, stable when you paddle, and easy to pop up on. It's also significantly safer for the people around you in the lineup.

Whether you're a complete beginner, a returning surfer rebuilding confidence, or a parent getting your kids into the ocean for the first time — a softboard is the right place to start. Available for pickup from either our Gracetown base or our Prevelly pickup point.

• Mid-size: 7'6 ft to 8'0ft boards — stable and confidence-building

• Large adult: 8'4 ft to 9'0ft boards — maximum stability and paddle power

• Leashes: Strong leashes are included with every hire — always wear them

Best Beginner Beaches by Pickup Location

Both pickup points are minutes from beginner-friendly waves:

• From Gracetown: Gracetown Bay (sheltered side of the bay) — manageable conditions for confident learners. Cowaramup Bay, further south, offers gentler waves on smaller days.

• From Prevelly: The classic Margaret River learn-to-surf zone, where MRSA runs lessons and just down the road, we have Gas Bay and Grunters Beach
